Q.  What if the car is already chipped?  Is it possible to "write over" the other software with the NEUSPEED/OptiCan tool? A. The answer to the question can get quite complex.  In short, the answer is generally no.  Simply put, our tool utilizes all the standard communication protocols.  We do this for OE compliance.  Some companies bypass or completely rewrite the protocols and as such render not just our tool useless, but the OE flash programming tool useless as well. Q. Does your system have some sort of program switching? A. No we do not offer that type of functionality.  Because we utilize the standard communication protocols, we cannot implement a program switching type system.  However, should an issue ever arise where you need to have the OE program, our tool will allow flashing of the OE program and flashing back to the performance software an infinite amount of times. Q. How long is the entire flash programming process? A. It depends on the vehicle.  On late model 2.0T FSI vehicles, the entire process takes approximately 2 hours.  On earlier models (i.e. MkIV 1.8T) the entire process takes about 30 minutes or less. Q. What grade of gasoline do I need to use once the performance software is installed? A. Always use 91 octane or greater with our software.  Using a lower octane fuel can result in pre-ignition (pinging) of fuel and cause permanent damage to the engine. Q. Can the dealer detect that the ECU has been programmed? A. Since the ECU is not physically modified, there are no outward signs of modification.  The ECU behaves exactly as the OE and the dealer can re-flash the ECU.  All dealer diagnostic tools function as they would with the OE programming. Q. What if the dealer re-flashes the ECU with the original programming? A. As long as the hardware number and the software numbers have not changed, the TUN file can be re-flashed to the ECU. Q. Are there updates to programs? A. Very seldom. All software is tuned and thoroughly tested before release. Unlike others, we do not release untested software for consumption and feedback. We will NOT release several different versions of our software for any vehicle. Q. What is actually changed or modified in the programming? A. Many OE maps are changed in our software programming. The most typical refinements can be found in the ignition timing maps, fuel maps, and boost maps (turbo charged vehicles only). Rev limiter on manual transmission vehicles is safely raised. Speed governors are removed for maximum performance however you must always obey local traffic laws and never exceed the speed rating of your tires.
